My Moves Journey: Building a Business, a Family, and a Stronger Self

Hi, I'm Allie. I'm the Chief Operating Officer at Moves App, but more importantly, I'm a real person who's lived the journey our programs support.

This is a story about building a business while building a family, learning to prioritize myself (for the sake of everyone around me), finding moments of balance, and letting go of the idea of perfection. It's not a "before and after" transformation story—it's a real, ongoing evolution.

Where It Started

In 2021, I was pouring everything into work and leaving nothing for myself. I was stressed, underweight, struggling to get pregnant, and losing touch with what mattered most. After two years of trying and rounds of fertility treatments, my husband asked me to take a hard look at what I was prioritizing.

I quit my job.

I started working out again.

And I took Madeline up on her offer to join Moves.

Since that moment, my mission has been to build a life that prioritizes health, happiness, and family—and to help others do the same.

The Timeline of My Journey

  • Dec 2021: Stressed, not prioritizing myself.
  • Jan 2022: Jumped into Moves with a mission to change that.
  • Feb 2022: Pregnant, naturally and unexpectedly.
  • March-May 2022: Building and testing Mom Moves Prenatal.
  • Nov 2022: Welcomed my son—but felt unprepared for labor and recovery.
  • Dec 2022: Feeling broken, unsure if I’d ever feel like myself again.
  • Mar 2023: 4 months PP, learning to rebuild through Beginner Moves and our new Core Moves.
  • April 2023: Started Weekly Moves and continued Core Moves.
  • July 2023: 6 months PP…pregnant again, while struggling to stay active (hello nausea).
  • Oct 2023-Jan 2024: Testing our improved Mom Moves and building Postpartum Moves (learning A LOT.)
  • Jan 2024: Relaunched Mom Moves with new education, mobility, and labor prep.
  • April 2024: Welcomed my daughter, started Postpartum Moves at 2 weeks postpartum.
  • June 2024: Transitioned into Weekly Moves + Core Moves.
  • July 2024: Confident in Weekly Moves and challenging my strength.
  • Jan 2025: Completed my first full Tighter Together challenge—finally!
  • April 2025: PR’d major lifts at 12 months postpartum.
  • May 2025: Pregnant…again (surprise!)

The Reality Behind the Highlights

I was strong throughout my first pregnancy, but completely unprepared for the reality of recovery. A tough labor left me feeling broken. Even a short walk felt impossible.

Pelvic floor physical therapy became my saving grace. Honestly, the only reason I even knew about pelvic floor PT was because of Moves and the incredible experts we've partnered with. For that, I am forever grateful. Our programs are built alongside pelvic floor physical therapists, combining their expertise with our real-world experience to create education and workouts that make expert knowledge accessible to real people.

After my first labor, I spent months rebuilding my strength, often feeling like progress was invisible. But through Core Moves and Beginner Moves, and slowly transitioning into Weekly Moves, I started finding my confidence again.

When I became pregnant with my second child at 6 months postpartum, I approached training differently. I was more confident, and because of that, I was able to build strength while pregnant. (Yes, you can lift heavy safely during pregnancy when done correctly!) As my pregnancy progressed, I focused on mobility, core strength, and labor prep, while still challenging my body appropriately.

When my daughter was born, everything changed. I had a plan this time. Thanks to the launch of Postpartum Moves, I knew exactly where to start, and I began rebuilding safely just two weeks after delivery. It wasn’t pretty—it was messy, between naps and while wearing pajamas—but it was purposeful and healing.

What I've Learned

  • Progress is not linear.
  • "All or nothing" is a myth.
  • Your body is more capable than you realize.
  • Having a plan and trusting experts matters (pelvic PT’s are gold).
  • It's ok to not be ok—but you have to reach for support.
  • Balance isn't perfect; it's a daily choice to prioritize what matters when you can.
  • You can do hard things.

Today, my house is still messy. I don't always hit five workouts a week. I sit at a desk (probably too much).  I'm not back in "pre-pregnancy jeans." I still wake up multiple times a night with kids. But I'm stronger—mentally and physically—than I've ever been.

And most importantly, I’ve made investing in myself a priority.

Why This Matters at Moves

My story isn’t special—it's just real. That's why we build programs the way we do.

We believe:

  • Journeys aren't linear.
  • Every phase of life matters.
  • Programs should be built by experts and shaped by real experiences.
  • Community stories—the messy, hard, beautiful ones—should guide how we build.
  • You deserve tools that meet you where you are, not where you "should" be.

When we build programs, we aren't chasing perfection. We're collaborating with physical therapists and other experts, listening to real experiences, and using our own journeys to shape better education and better solutions. We're trying to help you—wherever you are—find progress you can be proud of.

If You Relate…

Maybe your story looks different. Maybe it looks similar. Either way, you're not alone.

Moves isn't just a fitness app. It's a team of real people, building real programs, for real life. We fail, we learn, and we keep moving—together.

Thanks for letting me share a piece of my journey with you. 💛
